Born in Romeo, Michigan in 1971 Kid Rock (whose real name is Robert James Ritchie) is an American musician, songwriter, producer, rapper and actor. He has sold more than 35 million records in his career and has been nominated five times for a Grammy Award. Born in a small rural town in his early years he attended Romeo High School and helped his family by picking apples and caring for the horses in his family's six-acre orchard. On December 30, 1990, Ritchie released his first album Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast in partnership with Jive Records. The album made him one of the two biggest and most famous rap stars in Detroit. Although Jive Records didn't push the album, it became famous after radio station WSUC-FM (90.5) from Cortland, New York was fined 23,700 dollars by the FCC after playing a song from it: Yo Da-Lin In the Valley, due to its highly suggestive lyrics. In the end of 1990, Kid Rock's career started to decline and Jive Records released him from his contract in 1991. Being a white rapper, many record labels were unsure how to promote him and his musical blend of heavy metal and country rock. In 1991 Continuum Records, an independent label decided to pick up the artist. One of his first albums, The Polyfuze Method (1993) featured some lyrics judged too dirty to be played on the radio, but Kid Rock was able to create a big following by touring incessantly. Some years later in 1998 the artist's sixth album, entitled Devil Without A Cause sold more than 11 million copies, mostly thanks to the single Bawitdaba. Kid Rock made another great hit with the crossover country ballad Pictured, which also featured the singer and actress Sheryl Crow. In 2001 the artist began dating model and actress Pamela Anderson. In April of 2002 they became engaged but some months later in 2003, they broke up. After that Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson married in 2006 but four months later both filed for divorce. In October 2007 the artist was arrested because of his involvement in a brawl in Atlanta but was released later in the afternoon. The album Born Free (2010) was his first one without a parental advisory symbol on it. The album had a great success and sold 189.000 copies only during its first week. On February 24, 2015, Kid Rock released First Kiss, his tenth studio album and also his first on Warner Bros. Records. The first song of the album, First Kiss, reached No. 66 in the Hot 100 chart.
